Cartilage on the side of the nose may weaken and collapse on one or both sides when breathing in. Known as the nasal valve, cartilage may be reinforced by a limited nasal surgery that repositions cartilage. Surgery takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes, with patients ready to return home 2.5 to 3 hours after arrival.
After Surgery
Minor discomfort is expected for the first two days (Pain score: 2/10), but this resolves quickly. Nasal bleeding is common the first day, with localized swelling on the outside and crusting on the inside. The nose will gradually improve over 1 to 2 weeks.
Normal activity can be resumed after one day with no other restrictions. Out of town patients are cleared for travel the next day. No follow up is necessary.
