Removing both the tonsils and the adenoids will eliminate recurring tonsillitis, mouth breathing & snoring, mild sleep apnea, and chronic nasal drainage.
A pediatric tonsillectomy & adenoidectomy is performed with the use of general anesthesia. The surgery itself will last approximately 20-30 minutes, and patients will be ready to leave 2 ½ -3 hours after their arrival.
After Surgery
Recovery after tonsillectomy is different for each child. Some have little to no pain, others are very uncomfortable for 7 to 10 days. Parents will be given detailed instructions on care after this procedure. Our staff is available by phone at any time to answer questions and concerns during the recovery period.
Out of town patients are cleared for travel the next day, and no follow-up appointment is necessary. For one full week after the procedure, patients should reduce their usual level of activity.
