Reducing or straightening the nasal bone displaced by injury is performed under general anesthesia. The surgery is often completed 1 to 3 weeks after the injury to allow time for bruising and swelling of the skin to resolve.
An open reduction adds small incisions inside the nose to move the displaced nasal bones. This procedure may be done at any time after a nasal fracture.
After Surgery
Once the procedure is complete, the surgeon will place tape on your nose, which may be removed after 5 days. After the surgery, patients may experience minor swelling and bruising of the outer nose for one week after surgery.
Patients will be able to resume normal activities after two days. Avoid contact sports for three weeks.
Out of town patients are cleared for travel the next day. No follow up is necessary.
